Windows Live MovieMaker will not let you import network files by default.
This quick Registry ammendment will solve this a problem.
Just run REGEDIT, browse to HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindows LiveMovie Maker, add a DWORD value called AllowNetworkFiles and set it to 1
