When you’re watching a YouTube video in portrait orientation, the iPad displays the video in the top half of the screen, with information about it underneath.
If you turn your iPad into landscape orientation you get a full screen video, but it still does not fill the iPad’s screen and there are usually black spaces at the top and bottom of the screen.
If you double-tap the video it will zoom to fit the whole iPad screen.
